A SOLO FOR SOCIETY

Having a stage play, specically a monologue, as a starting point São Castro and António M Cabrita challenged themselves to create a solo piece that can, without resorting to words, embody the eloquent foundation of the text.
In his monologue, Der Kontrabaß (The Double Bass), Patrick Süskind metaphorically parallels the hierarchy of an orchestra and an organised society.
In A Solo for Society, the two choreographers seek to deepen their reflection on how people occupy a common territory, addressing problems that guide the human condition, such as love, freedom, choice, identity; expanding the gesture as an elaborate and externalized movement of this reflection. The confrontation of the self and the others, of the noise and the silence, in visible sound on the body.

A solo performed before society, the audience. An audience that observes the individual, a performer that observes society.
